Abstract
Recent experiments have demonstrated the potential of periodically amplified fiber-optic IM-DD transmissions in the non- return-to-zero (NRZ) format for transoceanic high-bit-rate systems.1 Up to now, the evaluation of the effects of nonlinearity and dispersion (including third-order dispersion) as limitations to the performance of such NRZ systems has required very time-consuming numerical simulations.2
