Abstract

Mid-span spectral inversion can overcome the limitations set by chromatic dispersion on high-bit-rate transmission based on conventional fibers (i.e., fibers dispersion-optimized at 1300 nm)1 and combat fiber nonlinearities.2 Various transmission experiments were reported producing spectral inversion via four- wave mixing (FWM) either in a semiconductor optical amplifier3 or in a dispersion-shifted fiber (DSF).4 However, they suffer from the low FWM conversion efficiency (about −20 dB) and an amplification stage is required after spectral inversion.
