Abstract

Optical networks based on multiple wavelengths for transport and routing are drawing attention not only among research laboratories, but also within operating companies and standardization committees.1 Wavelength referencing is becoming mandatory, particularly in the case of high-density channel-allocation schemes with wavelength spacing of the order of a few times the bit rate. A reliable, stable, and reproducible absolute reference is thus required.2
