UV tuning of twin-core-fiber demultiplexers

Abstract

Inexpensive demultiplexers for the 1.3- and 1.5-μm windows are essential components in passive optical networks, and the widespread use of analog (rather than digital) cable television necessitates an isolation of at least 20 dB (optical) between the windows. We report a compact optical-to-electrical demultiplexing detector with greater than 27-dB isolation, with 1.3/1.5-μm signals split by a twin-core fiber (TCF) and detected by an InGaAs bi-cell array (Fig. 1). The wavelength response measured electrically with the InGaAs array closely follows that measured optically.
