Abstract

In B-ISDN systems, optical interconnections overcome limitations of electrical parallel transmission. Parallel optical links1 are well suited to B-ISDN transmission and switching systems. However, these must have an ultralow bit error rate because a large number of links simultaneously are used in frames and shelves.
