Abstract
Praseodymium-doped-fluoride fiber amplifiers (PDFAs) have been considered for use in multichannel VSB-AM1–3 and FM4 video signal transmission because a great deal of 1.3-μm zerodispersion single-mode fiber (SMF) has been already installed. PDFAs can increase SMF transmission length or branch number; however, SMF transmission performance has been examined only for FM video signals,4 the CNR requirement of which is low, say, 17 dB, and there are no reports to date on SMF transmission of VSB-AM video signals, which requires high CNR, 51 dB in the trunk line, for example.
