Abstract

Future wavelength-division-multiplexed communications systems will require stable wavelength-select transmitters and receivers. Towards this goal, fiber Bragg gratings are being considered for both wavelength-select source and demultiplexing receiver application. In this paper the performance of three Bragg-grating fiber-laser source/demultiplexing receiver pairs are demonstrated in a 622-MBit/s, 0.4-nm-wavelength-spaced communications test bed. This Bragg-grating-based transceiver pair should permit timely wavelength-division multiplexing of current light-wave systems.
