Abstract

Since the realization of the EDFA in 1987, rapid progress has been made in fiber amplifier technology. This tutorial covers recent progress in fiber amplifier technology including 1.3 µm PDFA, 1.4 µm TDFA, 1.5 µm EDFA, and others as well as materials, configurations, and system applications. Special attention will be paid to the construction of practical amplifiers.
