Abstract
Sliding-frequency systems have been shown to be advantageous for soliton transmission1 and, more recently, for soliton generation.2,3 In the latter application, sliding-frequency lasers have a number of advantages over other optical-fiber short-pulse sources, including a significantly lower self-starting threshold and suppression of linear modes and noise. In this paper we demonstrate an optical-fiber sliding-frequency laser with a linear cavity geometry and an erbium-doped fiber as the gain medium. In-fiber Bragg gratings were used as end reflectors for the cavity.
