Abstract
Optical fiber is an excellent medium for transmission of microwave-modulated optical signals from a remote antenna to the receiver.1 After reception, these signals are typically downconverted to a lower intermediate frequency (i.f.) to recover the baseband signal. Recently,2 we demonstrated that a pair of external interferometric modulators, cascaded in series and both biased at quadrature, may be used to concurrently receive and downconvert rf signals. Here we adapt this architecture to demonstrate a downconverting fiber-optic link, for remote operation of an antenna, in satellite,1 and wireless communication systems.
