Abstract

Directly modulated standard distributed-feedback (DFB) lasers show nonideal FM response at low frequencies. This effect can be compensated by equalization of the driving signal,1 by using multisection lasers,2 or by appropriate encoding. By applying AMI,3 rather than Manchester encoding,4 and using a delay line, demodulator-unmodified nonreturn-to-zero (NRZ) receivers can be used.
