Novel MQW structure for extremely reliable 1480-nm pump lasers

Abstract

Reliable high-powered 1480-nm pump lasers are an essential requirement as the pumping sources for Er3,4 fiber amplifiers, especially in long-haul transmission systems. This paper reports on work undertaken to optimize multiple-quantum-well (MQW) device structures for exceptional reliability while considering design practicality for high-volume manufacture.
