Abstract
The Bellcore Research Network1 (BRN) is a three-node, multiwavelength, multi-gigabit-per-second testbed interconnecting the three Bellcore Research Laboratories at Red Bank (Navesink, NVC), Raritan River Center (RRC), and Morristown (MRE). The network was implemented over the installed interoffice fiber network of New Jersey Bell and thus provides a realistic platform for research in advanced optical network technologies and architectures, network control and management, and services. Among the tests planned are SONET/ATM network control and management experiments, remote access to the MRE supercomputer, SMDS experiments, and shared database research between the three locations. Other research opportunities include experimentation with video-based services such as Video Window, video-on-demand and distance-learning, and remote access to the Aurora Gigabit Testbed.
