Abstract

Polarization mode dispersion (PMD) is one of the serious limitations of transmission bandwidth in oceanic optical communication systems. Akiba reported a bit-error-rate (BER) fluctuation due to PMD temporal variations in a straight-line experimental system of over 5600 km for TPC-5.1
