Abstract

In a comparative study we have shown that a coherent optical beamforming architecture using guided-wave optics offers the best performance advantage in a Ku-band communications satellite antenna. We then designed, built, and evaluated a proof of concept model for such a beamformer, thereby achieving the first practical demonstration of this technique.
