Abstract
Progress of 10 Gb/s technology has been advancing so rapidly that the deployment of 10 Gb/s long haul systems appears to be in sight However, the field demonstration of 10 Gb/s long haul transmission has been so far limited to dispersion shifted fibers (DSFs) with negligible chromatic dispersion.[1] Since most of the long haul fiber cables are non-DSFs, it is important to demonstrate 10 Gb/s long haul transmission through the existing standard fiber. Furthermore, from the cost and maintenance viewpoint, it is desirable to demonstrate a 10 Gb/s system with maximum span length between optical repeaters.
