Abstract

Modulator-integrated distributed-feedback (MI-DFB) lasers exhibit low-chirp characteristics under multigigabit modulation and a drive voltage of −3 V. This high performance indicates that MI-DFB lasers are the most promising light sources for long-haul high-speed optical transmission systems. However, the reliability required for practical applications is not clear. Here, we report, for the first time to our knowledge, the life test of MI-DFB lasers.
