Low-chirp characteristics over wide-band modulation of multiple-quantum-well distributed-feedback lasers

Abstract

Lightwave communication systems using multiplexed analog-subcarriers are expanding their modulation-frequency ranges to realize large-scale multichannel transmission. Low noise and low distortion over several gigahertz have been demonstrated.1·2 Meanwhile, obtaining low chirp over a wide modulation frequency range without narrowing the linewidth is also required for practical applications, in which a transmission line has multiple reflection facets. This is necessary because chirping generates additional noise and higher coherency enhances the distortion.3
