Abstract

Wavelength converters have been identified as important elements for fabricating space switches1 and for increasing the capacity and flexibility in future broadband networks.2 Here we report on the use of a DBR laser as the converting element in connection with both direct-detection and coherent-detection schemes. In both cases world-record performance with wavelength conversion of 5-Gbit/s signals over 35 nm is demonstrated.
