Abstract

Rare-earth-doped fibers can be used for laser light sources as well as for traveling-wave optical amplifiers. Doped-fiber lasers have many applications, such as optical communications and measurement equipment. Mode-locked operation has been demonstrated for erbium-doped-fiber (EDF) lasers.1,2 In this paper we demonstrate wavelength-tunable optical time-domain reflectometry (OTDR) using a mode-locked EDF ring laser as a light source.
