Abstract
Laser frequency drift and close channel spacing in dense WDM networks can cause linear crosstalk.1 We propose to use the least mean squares (LMS) algorithm2 to adaptively cancel the crosstalk in an IM/DD receiver. This cancellation relaxes the laser frequency stabilization requirement and/or reduces the minimum channel spacing. A similar use of LMS was made for bundles of twisted pairs in Ref. 3. This algorithm assumes that the detected outputs of adjacent channels are available. This assumption would be valid for an optoelectric integrated circuit containing a grating4 feeding an array of photodetectors.
