Abstract

We report the fabrication and detailed characterization of a packaged 8 × 8 Ti:LiNbO3 switch array. The array uses a dilated-Benes, rearrangeably nonblocking architecture.1 Excellent uniformity is observed in insertion loss, bias voltage, and switching voltage, and the crosstalk performance far exceeds system requirements. We believe that this is the first switch array reported to date which can be driven with standard bias and drive voltages rather than voltages tuned for each directional coupler. The device is pigtailed with arrays of polarization maintaining fiber.2–4
