Abstract
There is great interest in the measurement of the transmittance of primary and colored coatings applied to an optical fiber, for example if there is a need to noninstrusively measure the amount of light guided in a fiber during routing maintenance of the optical network. Currently, there is concern that the coloring layers used to identify individual fibers can randomly affect the required measurement precision in an unknown manner. Furthermore, certain coloring layers affect active alignment during fusion splicing.
