Abstract

The deployment of fiber technology in the residential telephone access network and in the cable TV distribution network is making the technology employed, the architecture, and the service capabilities progressively more alike or converging. It is now predictable that, in the long term, both networks will be made of fiber, even in the drop, and both will be capable of providing the full range of reliable high-quality telecommunications and video services.
