Abstract

Solitons are good information carriers for high-speed and long distance communication systems because of their highly stable pulse shape. Recent progress on erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs)1 and a new soliton transmission scheme which uses lumped amplifiers,2 has enabled a relatively simple soliton transmission system to be made.
