Purely optical wide area networks

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

We present recent results on the performance of purely optical linear lightwave networks. In these networks, signals remain in optical form from source to destination, experiencing only simple linear operations within the network. The work focuses on circuit switched operation of these networks, describing the interplay between component constraints, control strategies, and performance.
