Abstract

Recently, external optical modulators are drawing attention due to their high speed and chirpless characteristics. The Ti:LiNbO3 modulator has been studied most, since it is expected to meet the requirements of wide bandwidth, low drive voltage, and thermal stability. Modulation bandwidth is limited by the velocity mismatch between microwave and light. We have proposed a new velocity matching method.1 To reduce the driving voltage, there is no method other than to lengthen the electrodes, but this narrows the bandwidth.
