Abstract
Conventional use of dual-drive Mach-Zehnder (MZ) modulators offers a reduction in the necessary drive voltages and allows for adjusting the chirp imposed on the signal.1–3 In this paper, we report the use of a MZ modulator with two separate electrodes as an optoelectronic exclusive-or (EXOR) gate for multiplexing two signals, each at 5-Gbit/s. Methods of demultiplexing the signal both by optical and electrical time demultiplexing are presented.
