Abstract

Future multichannel, multilocation FDM lightwave networks will require simple, low-cost stabilization of the transmitter laser frequencies to build practical networks. We report tests on thirteen lasers for periods ranging from 16 to 618 days which indicate that temperature and current feedback control alone are sufficient to stabilize DFB laser transmitter frequencies for many months without requiring optical spectrometer techniques.
