Abstract

There has been reported successes of distributed feedback (DFB) laser based fiber amplifier lightwave CATV systems.[1] However, the second order linearity is not rigorously retained due to two fundamental mechanisms: (1) interaction of laser chiip with gain profile from the erbium doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) and (2) interaction of chirp with fiber chromatic dispersion (CD).[2] We demonstrate in this paper an amplified system in which the two physical processes are analyzed and simultaneously suppressed using a simple compensation concept.
