10 Gbit/s, 4500km Transmission Experiment Using 138 Cascaded Er-doped Fiber Amplifiers

Abstract

Recently, long-distance transmission systems using in-line Er-doped fiber amplifiers have attracted special attention from undersea system designers. In fact, straight line experiments1,2 and recirculating loop experiments3,4 have demonstrated several thousand kilometer transmission. In this paper, we present results of a 4500km straight line transmission experiment at 10Gbit/s using NRZ data format.
