Abstract

A λ/4-DFB (distributed-feedback) laser with AR (antireflection) coated facets is the most popular dynamic single-mode (DSM) laser because of its table single-mode operations statically and dynamically. But there remain some problems in its lasing characteristics such as high-efficiency and low-chirp operations. The AR/HR (anti- and high-reflection) coated facets and asymmetric gratings have been used to improve differential quantum efficiency ηdf the front facet, but single-mode properties were degraded due to the difficulty of phase control of the grating at the HR coated facet and local lasing action within deep grating regions, respectively.1,2
