Abstract

Narrowing the spectral linewidth of semiconductor lasers is a key technology for coherent optical communication systems Recently, we ported 170-kHz spectral linewidth1 by introducing a corrugation-pitch-modulated (CPM) grating into 1.2-mm-long multiple-quantum-well distributed-feedback (MQW-DFB) lasers The CPM grating is effective in reducing the spatial hole-burning effect by flattening the light-intensity profile along the laser cavity.
