Abstract

(Invited) Although hig-speed private networks, such as the 100-Mb/s FDDI,1 are now available as products, there are already applications for which this bandwidth is insufficient. Some users of very high-performance computers have cited visualization, distributed processing, and massive data transfers as three areas which would benefit immediately from the availability of gigabit-per-second communications.
