Abstract

On one hand, polarization converters are required to tilt the TE polarization of the local oscillator in a fully integrated InP polarization-diversity receiver by 45°. On the other hand, a 45° polarization converter is a building block of a 90° InP polarization modulator,1 which is required for an integrated transmitter in a coherent transmission that uses polarization switching.2 We report on such a 45° electro-optic polarization converter built on (110) oriented InP substrate with a high efficiency of 2°/V mm.
