Abstract

Rare-earth-doped single-mode optical-fiber lasers have a wide range of applications in the laboratory environment. Field use, however, has been limited because the dichroic mirrors that are typically employed can be easily damaged or misaligned and are environmentally unstable. Replacement of the dichroic mirrors with intracore Bragg reflectors would provide a rugged, small, tunable fiber laser.
