Abstract

Accurate characterization of the modulation frequency response of high speed lightwave components and systems is important in applications requiring wide bandwidth transmission. We have developed an integrated and calibrated measurement system (HP 8703A) with a high dynamic range to measure components at frequencies up to 20 GHz. Key technical issues were to develop a broadband modulatable source and design a straightforward measurement and calibration process for the user.
