Abstract
A DFB laser has been packaged using an optical design consisting of two lens elements placed in quasiconfocal arrangement to accommodate an optical isolator. The first element is a plano-convex silicon lens with a radius and thickness of 0.875 and 1.115 mm, respectively. The laser chip is placed just inside the confocal point to minimize aberrations and produce a nearly collimated beam (the divergence of the laser ≃ 45°).1
