OEICs for lightwave systems

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Optoelectronic integrated circuit (OEIC) technology is expected to be a key in developing future lightwave systems because of its potential advantages in achieving high performance, low cost, and high functionality in optoelectronic components. Recent progress in both the performance and fabrication technology of OEIC transmitters and receivers is encouraging for lightwave communication and interconnection use. Also, a variety of lightwave processing functions to be implemented by OEICs will enable the evolution toward future advanced systems. This tutorial describes the recent progress and prospects of OEIC technology.
