Abstract
Coherent multichannel (CMC) systems employing optical frequency division multiplexing are known to make maximum use of the enormous potential bandwidth of single-mode fibers.1 We have built a CMC system with the potential of transmitting tens of channels to 8000 subscribers in a TV distribution (CATV) network. To evaluate the possibilities of fast and random channel selection essential for TV, we made a two-channel demonstrator. The optical TV receiver has a large tuning range and high sensitivity to allow a large number of subscribers.
