Abstract

Multi-Gbit/s coherent optical transmission systems have many advantages compared with low bit rate systems. They can easily meet the requirement for LD linewidth and frequency stability. Moreover, they can compensate for fiber chromatic dispersion by using an electric delay equalizer.1 However, difficulties exist in the detection circuits, i.e., the photodiode and IF circuit band-widths.
