Abstract

Optical amplification is being investigated to increase the performance of high-capacity long-distance fiber-optic transmission systems and also to extend the range of broadcast mode and WDM networks. Experimental results are presented which demonstrate that the fault location by optical time domain reflectometry (OTDR) can be extended to such transmission systems with inline optical amplifiers.
