Abstract

Integrated optics power dividers have potential applications in optical communication, optical signal processing, and optical sensors. Ion-exchanged glass waveguide power dividers are attractive because of their low loss, ease of fabrication, and compatibility with optical fiber. Beguin et al.1 have manufactured multimode power dividers. They employed a Y-junction configuration. This configuration is not suitable for fabrication of single-mode power dividers because it can only divide equally the guided light.
