Abstract

Passive fiber devices are of considerable importance as compact and low- loss in-line devices.12 One major advantage of fiber devices over bulk-optic and planer waveguide devices is the simple and low-loss light coupling with the signal transmission fibers. These devices include biréfringent couplers, polarization-splitting couplers, array couplers, polarizers, and various kinds of spectral filter.3 Some typical fiber devices and recent progress are reviewed.
