Abstract
Recently we have demonstrated the possibility of femtosecond soliton generation in the region of negative group velocity dispersion of a single-mode optical fiber from a 1.064-μm mode-locked Nd:YAG laser. The physical nature of these Raman solitons is the development of the modulation instability in the vicinity of zero chromatic dispersion and the subsequent frequency conversion by Raman self-scattering.1
