Abstract

Several techniques have been proposed to handle the problem of signal fading due to polarization mismatch in coherent optical communication systems. These include: (i) feedback-control [1], (ii) polarization-diversity [2-3], and (iii) polarization-switching (or scrambling) techniques. The latter techniques rely on inducing a fast variation in the polarization state of the received optical signal [4].
