Abstract

Several heterodyne detection schemes have been reported.1,2 Yet these configurations contain few differences between the paths of counterpropagating waves. A newly conceived heterodyne fiber-optic gyroscope utilizing a novel electrooptic frequency shifter for a heterodyne interferometric system is described. It improves the reciprocity of the optical path and also releases the use of bulky acoustooptic devices.
