Abstract
Coherent optical communication systems and wavelength-division multiplexing networks require wavelength-tunable light sources with a broad wavelength range and single-frequency output. In this paper, we describe an optical fiber-extended-cavity laser in which the feedback wavelength from the external fiber element can be varied continuously, producing a mode-tunable laser output at 1.5 μm with a range of 450 Å.
