Abstract

Low-loss single-mode fibers with an inner cladding of only a few MCVD layers and a one-layer intermediate cladding of depressed index to prevent outer cladding loss to add to the transmission loss, have been measured to transmit with 0.22dB/km and, despite a relatively large mode size, are insensitive to micro- and macro-bending.
