Abstract

Since Ikegami and Suematsu1 reported the existence of resonancelike phenomena in direct semiconductor laser modulation, it has been assumed that the maximum modulation frequency is approximately the resonancelike frequency fr. Some other modulation methods, however,2–4 are hoping to achieve fast switching beyond the resonancelike frequency fr as schematically shown in Fig. 1.
